Welcome, this is the English version of common web sites of the Czech Ministry of Transport and Transport Research Center. Their aim is to summarize information on cycling with a view to serve as a guide.

“Safe and Healthy Walking and Cycling in Urban Areas” is a name of workshop held in Průhonice, the Czech republic, in the days of the 24th and 25th September 2009, and this workshop triggered off the updated version of these web sites. The Workshop was organized in the framework of the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (THE PEP) in cooperation with the Czech Republic Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Health, City of Prague and Non-Governmental Organizations.

The Workshop aims to encourage transport, health and environment policymakers to develop strategies and measures to support pedestrian and cycle-friendly cities. The focus of the Workshop was on cooperation between national and local authorities, industry and civil society in planning, building infrastructure and financing safe and healthy walking and cycling. It was offer an opportunity for exchange of good practices and to build capacity for sustainable urban transport in the countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia (EECCA) and South East Europe (SEE).

The Workshop was kick-off THE PEP staffete (relay race), one of the mechanisms adopted by the Third High-level Meeting on Transport, Health and Environment to implement the goals of the Amsterdam Declaration and to share good experience from the Netherlands and other successful countries in non-motorized transport.

The structure of this web site was then generated in this context. You can find basic information on the realization of the National Strategy of the Cycle Transport in the Czech Republic in the section “WE TEACH”. In another section, ”WE LEARN”, you can learn about different topics related with cycling promotion, we ourselves used this during the cycling promotion in the Czech republic (National cycling policies, ECF, Local cycling policies, Best Practice Review" of EU projects, Cycling and transport, Cycling and tourism, Cycling and campaigns). We prepared for foreign visiters of this web site some basic information on cycle tourism in the Czech republic too - “CZECH CYCLE TOURISM”.
